1st camping trip of the summer

We have been looking forward to this, our first camping trip of the year, for weeks. Josh took Friday off and we gathered all of our gear and headed up to Carolina Hemlocks.
It was so nice. We had bought a new tent, our old one just wasn't working for our large family, and were so excited to set it up. Love it! It is so nice.
Saturday we took the kids (along with my mother in law) to "the swinging bridge". I don't know the story behind this bridge but it seems to be a popular place to visit. It was neat and the kids thought it was so cool they have already asked to go again.

It was a weekend of firsts...
Acacia went down a small part of the river by herself.
Acacia also swam with her life jacket. This is big. She normally has to be in the raft.
Hannah is learning to swim without her life jacket.
Liam, although he went camping when he was 6 weeks old, I count this as his first camping trip.

With the exception of some crazy neighbors, we had a nice relaxing camping trip. We have already started planning our next trip :~)

1 year

Can I come out and play?

I have been sitting here typing and erasing this blog I want to write. Today is my only son's 1st birthday and I can't seem to put into words how I feel.
Sorrow. Yes, some. This is probably my last child so it is a little bittersweet to have his 1st birthday upon us already.
Happiness. Of course. I have always loved watching every stage of my childrens growth.
Emotional. *sigh*  I couldn't figure out why I have been so emotional lately, but I think it has a lot to do with today. My children are growing up so fast. Sometimes I feel like I have missed could they be so grown up? Did I sleep through it? Just yesterday they were babies. Now my littlest baby is moving from being a baby to a big one year old. Wait! Hold on. Something is off...he can't be a year old yet. He is still my little baby. He's not even walking yet (almost, but not quite), its not time.
So here is my sad, unorganized post. I was going to talk about the day I went into labor and how much joy I felt when he came into this world. I could have wrote about this past year and what a happy, smart, loving child he is. But no. Today I just feel a little sad. My sweet baby isn't a baby anymore. Tomorrow. Tomorrow maybe I won't be so sad and I can write a more upbeat happy post. But for now I will just say...

Happy 1st Birthday Liam <3
We love you so much!!

Liam's 1st birthday party

After a very busy week, Saturday was upon us. Saturday, the day of my sons 1st birthday party.
House clean- check
Cupcakes made- check
Presents wrapped- check
House/yard decorated- check

The bbq birthday party was to start at 5pm. At 3:30 it started raining. Awesome. Stress.
3:40 it stopped raining. Yay :~)
We go outside to finish decorating...oh my goodness. 90 something deg. with 90% humidity. Wow. I had planned on the kids playing on the slip-n-slide and kiddie pools, but the adults are going to melt. And melt we did. It was SO hot. We all kinda wondered in the house every once in a while to cool off.
The kids had a blast though, playing in the water.

Josh was the bbq king and made hamburgers and hot dogs. Plus we had macaroni salad, chips, ice cold watermelon and of course cupcakes. After we all ate, we let Liam open his presents. Just as we start with presents it starts to rain. Thank goodness it was just a drizzle and we were all so hot we just hung out in it anyways. After presents we did cupcakes. As you can tell from the pictures, Liam loved them.
All in all it went really well, despite the heat and rain. It helps that we have a great group of friends and family.

So my little prince had his 1st birthday party.
My feelings?.... well, thats a whole different post.

My sister's wedding

The quality of these pictures is not great...they are pictures of pictures.

My little sister got married last weekend. It was a beautiful ceremony. They didn't do a reception, but I make some cheesecake cake pops that the kids handed out afterwards. I think they had fun being involved.

It was little bittersweet. None of our family were able to come out (it was a spur of the moment thing). It was beautiful though. I wish them a long and happy life together.
